Keynote Speakers

Stephen C. Harrison, Ph.D., is The Giovanni Armenise-Harvard Professor in Basic Biomedical Sciences, Harvard Medical School and Investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Dr. Harrison is best known for his pioneering work on the X-ray crystallography of viruses and virus-related systems. He has also made a number of seminal contributions to the development and application of other physical methods, particularly electron microscopy, to study complex macromolecular assemblies. His Keynote Lecture is entitled “Electron microscopy of large assemblies at near-atomic resolution”.

Thomas D. Pollard, M.D., is The Sterling Professor and Chair, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Yale University. Throughout his career, Dr. Pollard has employed a remarkable combination of biochemistry, biophysics, microscopy and fission yeast genetics to investigate the molecular basis of cellular motility and cytokinesis. His Keynote Lecture is entitled “Combining structure at all levels with kinetics to understand actin-based motility and cytokinesis.”
